Anyone who forms an opinion based on one source is woefully lacking in information. Anyone who restricts their source material to TV news and talk shows should have their voter registration revoked. Rush Limbaugh and Keith Olbermann and their ilk are there to make money, not give you facts from which to form an opinion.

    Well said, sandfan.

Today’s strip reminds me of a metaphysical madlebrot maze, in which reality is formed out of sequential chaotic patterns. Joe is writing a book on Palin, the process of which will ironically give Palin publicity/credibility. Roland is doing a story on Joe, which gives Joe publicity/credibility. GT is doing a strip on Roland doing a story on Joe doing a story on Palin, which can also only result in giving Palin publicity/credibility.

And as we comment on GT’s strip, we form yet another level… and another when others comment upon us.

What a tangled maze we weave…

My mind is made up! Don’t confuse me with facts.

Politics in Florida is really bad this year, worst mudslinging I have ever seen. No one has a plan for anything, but they all want to tell you how crooked the other guy is.

Now Now. I try for a balanced viewpoint. I spurt coffee over the lies in the NYT every day. But I read that English version of the Daily Worker cause I want to see all sides. I also watch Jim Lehrer, who lets face it, might be a little slanted. Fox News may have some view points that don’t agree with the PC Liberal crowd. Maybe if they watched Fox they might realize the news is separate from the editorial content. And MSNBC is one bleeding heart after another.

The news tell us of unemployment caused by the spill. What? employment is up in LA because of the spill. All those poor fisherman have been hired by BP with their boats costing taxpayers not one red cent. Clean up crews? Yup, paid by BP. One group got hurt, 20,000 hard working men who lost their families source of support when the Prez tried to illegally close the rest of the deep wells. Luckily the Fed Court put an end to that nonsense. American businesses bankrupt by Obama. Funny, I didn’t see that on PBS.

All the posts above are so insightful and well thought out that I’ve changed my political affiliation four times since I read the strip (smile). Really, though, has anyone ever convinced anyone else to change their minds by posting to a comic strip web site? Doubtful. Just sayin’ …

Still, I enjoy reading the posts of all the morons who disagree with me and all the brilliant people who do agree with me (smile again).

I’m old enough to remember when news organizations aimed for accuracy, as in reporting stuff that was actually true, verifying their sources and such. Somehow, that’s been replaced by this notion that all they need to deliver is “balance,” which seems to mean making sure that people who believe the earth is flat get as much air time as people who believe it’s round.

Hear!!Hear! Puddleglum I too am old enough to remember when reporting news meant something. Rather than the side touting pretense I see on every source of information. Today all I see is repeated attempts by All sides to foment hate and polarize opinion in order to sell or gain power, with out any thought at all for facts, truth, honesty, honor or decency. Truth in reporting? There is no truth, There’s only who ever can yell the loudest or be the rudest.

I see the local news shows expounding normal daily news. When you call them on it they drop the story altogether rather than report it accurately….you can’t believe anything they report anymore regardless if it’s what you want to hear or not.

Nemesys: What could anyone possibly say that would give Palin credibility?

I guess I’m not old enough, because I don’t remember a time when news sources didn’t have their own perspectives. The NY Times has always decided on their own what’s “fit to print”, but that hasn’t been unique to them. The history of journalism is a history of advocacy, not “fair and balanced” reporting.

I remember growing up in the 60’s, when we got both the Hartford Times (right-leaning) and the Hartford Courant (left-leaning) delivered. I remember when the 3 networks leaned heavily to the right to support “traditional values” (and “traditional commercial sponsors). I also remember during the Nixon era when those same 3 networks started shifting left while maintaining a straight face that they were only reporting “hard news”. Finally, I remember when alternative news and commentary sources sprung up to fill in the void created by the monopoly of the Big 3, and it’s been journalistic chaos ever since.

hansel, GT gives Palin credibility just by devoting a week’s strip to her. As my old boss used to say, “It doesn’t matter what they’re saying about you, so long as they’re talking about you”. Palin will probably never run for the presidentcy, nor should she (nor should Obama have, btw), but she has been and will be influential in the upcoming elections… in part because of the credibility that GT and similar editorialists and commentators provide her.

In case you haven’t noticed, people are tired of the old same-old same-old, and no matter what you think about Sarah Palin, she ain’t that.

Hmm, Fox is certainly taking it on the chin with this group. Sort of going against the tide, since Fox leads the ratings of every other Cable News and/or Opinion show, and often beats the “network evening news” which is increasingly irrelevant. So are you guys saying that the “majority” who watch Fox are just more stupid than you? Just askin’

Quiz: Who said “I can see Russia from my house!”? Sarah Palin - nope she never said it; it was Tina Fey on SNL, which shows where many of you get your “news”. LOL!

    Sarah’s actual quote:

“They’re our next door neighbors and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska.”

Somehow she thought this gave her foreign policy experience.

All I can say is, run Sarah run!

Palin said ” you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, and from an island in Alaska”. this as an answer to her insight into russian politics seems deserving of he ridicule it received. and required little change for Tina Fay’s skit.
