I also have issues with the cultish nature of the Salivation Army, as Archie Bunker called it. But they do a lot of good also. Just because the bell ringers get paid I would not write them off. These are people that the SA is trying to rehabilitate and get into jobs.
We take our stuff to Value Village, they unwrap (un bag) it and put it on the shelves. ALL of the proceeds (except rent and salaries for the worker bees) goes to ARC of Clark County.I buy stuff for me there too, I’ve gotten designer duds at a fraction of their cost!
I’m grateful that Ruby did not claw my eyes when she attacked me for no reason in my sleep last night! Twice! Nice scratches on my forehead, though. She is usually only vicious when another cat is around but had me all to herself.
I wish for Woof to find the forever home he deserves! Same goes for the other 9 cats. Annie will get visiting rights of course. Until then I wish that the warehouse would have it’s windows repaired and all leaks fixed.
BTW I finally found my pet stockings and they are hung over the fireplace. And, Tyler knocked over my table top Christmas tree…I suspect he came runnin’ and skidded on the snow skirt. No harm done.
Years ago we had neighbours who were in the SA. The woman was reduced in rank when she married someone of a lower rank than herself..The husband used to retire to his shed to have a smoke and a beer.
In Seattle, Goodwill is the dominant player. They have a huge store and a job training center. They have special days for all the designer clothes that have been donated, a big social event. Deseret, St Vincent de Paul, and Value Village (for profit) have smaller stores.
Salivation Army has a social service office. Among other things they give rent assistance, but it is kind of humiliating. If you are on the verge of eviction, and you beg enough, they will give you maybe $150. Then you got to the church and get another $50. On you go.
I give my cash to Northwest Harvest, which supplies food banks in the region. The money goes farther with them, vs. buying a bag of rice at the grocery store and putting it in the collection bin.
We’re getting the house ready for our incoming guests.
Smudge is coming back on Sat if not adopted. He gets to roam the house. Lulu, the golden tabby I had in Oct and Nov is coming back while Susan is on a trip. This morning she found 2 kittens about 3 mos old and will try to trap them tonight. If she gets them, I will get them, too. They’ll be in the kitten room.
It will be constant litter box cleaning till after the new year.
Not to get involved in the Salvation Army debate, but yesterday it was mentioned that the bell ringers get paid. Perhaps that is true in some places, but I know its not always true. For the past 3 years, all the sports teams at my college were forced to volunteer as bell ringers at the local Walmart. We were certainly not paid. (And its a D3 school, so we don’t get athletic scholarships).
In September 2002 Mark and I flew to Vancouver B C and one day we took the tram up Grouse Mtn. A man ‘forgot’ to use his Old Spice and once I (and others near him) got a whiff we all shifted to one side. Luckily the tram didn’t tilt too much on the overloaded side. Up top of Grouse we enjoyed the ‘Lumber Jerks’ show and scenery. When we flew home I was pulled aside at the airport (along with a nun, a young boy, and a very pleasant looking young woman) for extra screening with that rod and a pat down. Mark boarded with no trouble and he looked real scruffy after not shaving for days! Looking forward to returning to the area one day.

Good morning, everyone. Our long-term weather forecast says rain on Christmas, so we will be having a green day. A bit rough so far on the ski resorts.

MCTS- is that the rare one-eared bunny wearing his shades? Love the bowtie on the next one.

Nope. I have one in the laundry room for ours, one in the kitten room for them and one in the den for Lulu.
