Pig: What are you doing, Rat? Rat: Lying on my back with a beer. Pig: What for? Rat: Because in thousands of years. Nothing we've accomplished will be remembered, so you can kill yourself trying to achieve things, or you can do this. Pig: Those poor achievers.

Good thing the people who built the Parthenon and the Pyramids didn’t feel this way.

@leftwingpatriot: who built the Parthenon? Who built the Pyramids? Not the bosses who HAD them built, the people who BUILT them. Does anybody remember their names?

I’m still stuck on the second panel, wondering why Pig (or anybody) would ask What for?

The immortals are few and far between. The greatest thinkers, the greatest artists, the greatest conquerors, and the greatest scientists. That’s about it.

I’M WITH YOU, RAT!!

Actually, this is reminiscent of a certain passage….“1 The words of the Preacher, the son of David, king in Jerusalem.
2 Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
3 What profit hath a man of all his labour which he taketh under the sun?"

I think beer is an achievement that’s well remembered.

Why build these cities glorious if man un-builded goes?In vain we build this world if you can’t drink brews with your bros…

So Rat is teaching Pig how to be a lazy Slacker.
Sisyphos almost 9 years ago
Rat’s approach is good enough as long as he has money enough for beer. But he must “achieve” that….

Rat’s nihilism seems all the more reasonable after reading the comments section of any website.

Is Rat drinking craft beer or some cheap mass produced crap like Budweiser or Narragansett. It makes a difference when you are being this philosophical.

@usafmsgt, Nah. He’s enjoying some Billy Beer!

Deep. Existential. Thought provoking. I guess it comes down to whether you think Karma is real or not. I don’t. I did in my last life but I don’t in this one.

9:34 AM in New Jersey. Horizontal snow coming down outside. Seems like a good time for a beer. (I stocked up on essentials before the blizzard started.)

There was the guy who burned down the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus in what is now Turkey in 356 BC. He wanted notoriety, but when executed for the arson a law was also passed forbidding the mention of his name. A historian recorded it anyway, so he got his wish: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herostratus

It took generations of slaves to build those monuments and men died doing it. If you broke a bone, you were executed as worthless. Rat’s got the right idea, again!

Sitting and drinking is the only multitasking that I do well. The only way this is more satisfying is if the beer is something you homebrewed yourself.www.byo.comwww.homebrewersassociation.org

Rat is such a joy to be around. But if I’m honest, I do agree with him a little. I don’t have and will never have a legacy to speak of.xxx

It is an acclomplishment to get anything that lasts built. Most of the people that were involved at the beginning will die before they ever see it.

And for the country version:
“Could be holding you tonight..Could quit doing wrong, start doing right. You don’t care about what I think.I think I’ll just stay here and drink.”—Merle Haggard

It is well known that stars don’t last forever, and in time, the earth will be destroyed by the sun’s failure. An asteroid could also destroy the earth in the meantime. It is true that, in the very long run, nothing really matters. However, if this is Pastis feeling sorry for himself, that is ridiculous. He’s achieved more than the average low-wage wage slave will ever achieve, and probably made ten times (or more) as much money.

Guys I know this is random and I apologize but I just wanted to say, this is my last comment. I was never a “famous” commenter but I feel I’ve commented enough, I’ve done my part. That’s all. Thanks for liking and replying to my comments
