I’m still stuck on the second panel, wondering why Pig (or anybody) would ask What for?

I think beer is an achievement that’s well remembered.

Why build these cities glorious if man un-builded goes?In vain we build this world if you can’t drink brews with your bros…

So Rat is teaching Pig how to be a lazy Slacker.

Rat’s approach is good enough as long as he has money enough for beer. But he must “achieve” that….

Rat’s nihilism seems all the more reasonable after reading the comments section of any website.

Is Rat drinking craft beer or some cheap mass produced crap like Budweiser or Narragansett. It makes a difference when you are being this philosophical.

9:34 AM in New Jersey. Horizontal snow coming down outside. Seems like a good time for a beer. (I stocked up on essentials before the blizzard started.)

It took generations of slaves to build those monuments and men died doing it. If you broke a bone, you were executed as worthless. Rat’s got the right idea, again!

It is an acclomplishment to get anything that lasts built. Most of the people that were involved at the beginning will die before they ever see it.

It is well known that stars don’t last forever, and in time, the earth will be destroyed by the sun’s failure. An asteroid could also destroy the earth in the meantime. It is true that, in the very long run, nothing really matters. However, if this is Pastis feeling sorry for himself, that is ridiculous. He’s achieved more than the average low-wage wage slave will ever achieve, and probably made ten times (or more) as much money.

Rat should be a motivational speaker.
