Not everything we’ve dreamed since we first dreamed of robots and machines will necessarily work out the way we think. The way humans are acting today, I sincerely doubt that DC comics’ confident prediction of enormously enlarged brains is on track.
It may have ben toupee in cheek when DC did it, but it still came from the typical mideast of the day- that progress was a straight line of change, in one direction, with no slowdown, no pushback, and no possible reverse.
A couple of generations ago, people on my Mom’s side of the family had an ongoing joke of mailing a baloney sandwich to each other. Mom couldn’t remember if it was a newly made one each time, but I hope so.
The only thing computers can do is math – adding ones and zeroes. That’s how they do everything. They’re just supercharged adding machines. When a computer can reproduce itself without the aid of a human type being writing the firmware and software code AND the compiler for that code – then we can start worrying.

Just wondering… will machines be able to cast magic spells?

Just pray that your computer doesn’t start calling you “Dave”, Jay. Or starts building Terminators.
