My cat curles up in front of the fire next to my two pugs. It makes a beautiful, if somewhat unusual, bucolic picture. The chihuahua hides in the bathroom. The occasional “snaps” in the fireplace scare him.
I haven’t had time to light the fireplace this winter, but every time the family cuddles up in a blanket, our two cats lie on top and go to sleep. And they have a knack for sleeping right on my legs’ pressure points, making it really uncomfortable 10 minutes later….
reminds me of a snow storm some years back where my parents and i were cuddled up watching tv; each of us having suffered some injury and not feeling terribly mobile. each wanted 1 of the other 2 to go take away snack remnants and bring fresh snacks from the kitchen. it was a conundrum
My cat crouches on the arm of my recliner with her nose about an inch away from the exhaust fan on my laptop. Eyes closed in blissful warmth. I just have to watch her that she doesn’t block the vent!
Had a cat who thought it was great fun to sit in the middle of the cold fireplace. Even if we shut the fireplace doors, she would sit and bat at the glass. Good thing we have mild winters.
I generally fuel my fireplace with a combination of dead tee limbs that fall in my yard and a wad of Junk Mail..the Junk Mail by itself doesn’t work because it’s all treated with Flame Retardant these days.Without the tree limbs to keep it going, the fire Dies.

Gotta train your cat to stoke the fire. Ooops, I said “train” and “cat” in the same sentence. I must be in an alternate universe.

“Well put another log on it!”

A former cat and dog would see me bringing in logs and race to sit in front of the fireplace, where they would camp for the duration.

I move the small cat tree right in front of the fireplace when the fire is going and the cat you see here sleeps in it.
