Please turn off your porch lights when not using them, or use a sensor light.
Directing light to where you need it using reflectors helps, and saves money. (you pay for every photon generated)
Urge your local government to replace “Cobrahead” type streetlights with shielded fixtures that don’t spill light above horizontal.
I’ll bet most folks reading this can’t see the Milky Way because of local light pollution. And that has just happened in the past sixty or so years. Nearly every human being before us has seen it easily.
I’m waiting for a power outage for about an hour over all of So Cal — we haven’t seen anything resembling the Milky Way in 30 years here…..unless you go to Joshua Tree or way out in the desert……waaaay too many lights here and not nearly enough of them facing down or on motion sensors.
Last 3 chances to retain a reader have just become two. “Light pollution?” What a farce! Plenty of places on this ol’ planet where night is pitch black. Go on a cruise or two sometime and see for yourself. So now you’re down to two chances. You know, lose a reader here, lose a reader there, and petty soon you’re talking O.O.W (That’s out of work, and yeah, that’s exactly what it sounds like.)
