Yup, you are heroes and you didn’t have to change into costumes.-The only time — far as I can recall — Hobbes is in his live form with someone other then Calvin in the frame (see panels 8 and 9).
It was the strip that ends an arc of strips where Calvin had lost Hobbes and Susie found him, then took him to be a guest at her tea party. When Calvin discovers she found his pal and Susie is turned away accepting his thanks, Hobbes becomes “real”.
About Leading Edge’s picture – I know it’s both a tribute to C&H and is supposed to be cute, but somehow seeing a realistic child that close to a realistic tiger, with its fangs bared no less, (is it supposed to be smiling?), is rather terrifying to me. That tiger’s head is almost bigger than the child’s whole body! If I was the child in that picture, I’d be screaming in terror! :)
As for Hobbes being “live”, I think in the instances cited it was because the others in the panel were not looking at him. At least that’s what’s consistent about those times.
Because they lack the maturity to make those decisions at age 14 because their brains and critical-thinking skills aren’t fully developed. And where did you get the idea that military age in the US starts at 14? Even under the draft, men had to be at least 18 in order to be eligible for it — that’s why the 26th Amendment was passed to lower the age of majority from 21 to 18, so that those who were drafted at 18 could vote on the politicians who were responsible for the wars that made it necessary to draft them.

I didn’t even realize until now, but this is now one of few times that any other character is in the same panel as Hobbes and he’s “alive”. (the only other time I can think of was the “car in a ditch” arc when Calvin and Hobbes are running down the driveway while mom’s sitting around)

Poor mom, always having to put up with Calvin’s antics. At least his idea worked. She should be grateful.

Tigers are an endangered species, I guess. So at least Hobbes is safe, for now.

Ballon tails crossing (as in panel 9) is very bad technique.

Good strip, but as has probably been noted before, incorrect terminology. Calvin isn’t an infant, so it wouldn’t be infanticide. It would be filicide.
