When the insurance company finds out, your goose is cooked.

In 1985 I delivered pizza for the local Dominoes. One day I left the store to make a delivery, when I pulled into the street the stop light at the corner turned green and I hit the gas because there was no one in front of me and I knew my 1980 Citation couldn’t get up past the 30 mph speed limit in that much space. Just as I entered the intersection a driver coming toward me made a left hand turn right in front of me. I hit the brakes and spun the wheel to avoid him but hit him right in the front tire.As we got out of our cars the other driver said, “Going a little fast there weren’t you?”I stared at the guy for a second, trying to figure out what he was trying to do because I knew I couldn’t get up to the speed limit in the space I had, finally I said, “I don’t think so, but I wasn’t looking at the speedomoter during the crash.”When the police arrived the guy told them the same thing, that I was speeding through the intersection and caused the accident. The officer asked me how fast I was going and I told him the truth, “I don’t know, I wasn’t looking at the speedometer during the crash, but I know from experience that I can’t get up to the speed limit in the space I had.” The officer took one look at my car and nodded in agreement. The other guy ended up getting a ticket for failing to yield to oncoming traffic, no reduction in the charge due to my actions. I ended up driving away with my car, only minor damage, his car had to be towed because it was a front wheel drive car and when I hit it I bent the wheel. But on top of that it turned out that he’d borrowed the car from a friend and had to explain everything to him.
