Umm . . . Good point, when was the last time that an unarmed white person was shot by the police? I suppose that might not make the news and maybe we wouldn’t hear about it quite as quickly, but I’m sure that it would become an issue quickly enough. BTW the incidents that really bother me aren’t the “unarmed” part, but the part where people are running away after having done nothing – or already down – and the police keep emptying the clip. I was taught rules of engagement for WAR, not policing, and these incidents seem over the top.

Not one of those organizations is racist. They just promote the interests of a certain group. If they were racist they wouldn’t allow certain types of people to join them. They all allow people from all backgrounds to join with the knowledge that the organizations, agendas will center on things that affect the type of people in the organization’s name. They were formed because the interests of the Blacks, Hispanics, Native Americans, etc. were either not adequately addressed (think separate but equal) or not addressed at all and because the people they represent were not allowed to join other organizations because of their skin color. A far as Black History Month goes it doesn’t exclude anyone. It’s named because the emphasis is on Black History. Black History Month is the only the time that people learn that there is more to black history than just slavery and the civil rights movement. It was originally called Negro History Week when Dr. Carter G. Woodson founded the celebration in 1928 and placed it in the second week of February to incorporate the birthdays of Abraham Lincoln (February 12) and Frederick Douglass (February 17). In the 1970’s it Became Black History Week and in the 1980’s it became Black History Month. Also, white history is taught thoroughly in schools but you never hear of people like Imhotep, the first medical doctor in Egypt, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams who performed the first successful open heart surgery, Dr. Charles Drew who founded Blood for Britain, the first blood bank anywhere in the world, Bessie Coleman, the first Black woman to earn a pilot’s license, or Black inventors such as Garrett Morgan (automatic transmission, turn signal, traffic light, gas mask), Granville T. Woods (multiplex telegraph, third rail, air brake, and telephone transmitter that makes long distance calls possible, the patent for which was bought by Alexander Graham Bell), Henry T Sampson (cell phone), Frederick M. Jones (thermostat), or pioneers like Robert Henry Lawrence (the first African American astronaut ever, he died before he could go into space), Guion S. Bluford (the first African American in space, 1984), Arnoldo Tamayo Mendes (a Cuban, he was the first Black man in space, 1942) or Mae Jemison (First Black woman in space, 1992) or many other great Black achievers. This is why we have and need Black History Month. The MS. Black _____ pageants were formed for the same reason the organizations you mentioned before it were formed: as an answer to racial exclusion by white people. The pageants were also formed to be a celebration of the beauty that is black women.By your logic, Women’s History Month (which is March, BTW) and organizations like NOW and LWV are sexist because they promote the interests and history of women. You say we all do what is right for our country. if that were true the organizations and events you mentioned and the ones I mentioned wouldn’t have ever been necessary because exclusion and racism are right for no one. We also wouldn’t still be celebrating the first Black to do this or the first woman to do that. In addition, you say because we are all Americans we should all be opposed to Obama. Why is that ? He is an American too. In closing, if your logic still applied, this country would still be ruled by rich white men (it still is for the most part) with all women and non white men having absolutely no voice in anything and in some cases not even being considered as people or being considered only 3/5 of a person. Or is that what you really want?I apologize for the long post but I wanted to address each point you raised in yours.

I think it might have something to do with the very vocal and clear racists, including many of the early Tea Party demonstrators who carried signs telling him to go back to Africa, using “the n-word,” and such. I don’t think anyone has ever said that everyone who opposes President Obama is a racist, but certainly there are a large, vocal, visible group who are quite clearly against him on racist grounds, even if they don’t say it or admit it to themselves. I’ve seen it myself too often to deny it.

You are correct. The Constitution isn’t anti government, but it was (notice the word choice there) racist and sexist. Anytime a document has to go through the amendment process three times to ensure it grants all races the same basic rights (the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments) and a fourth to ensure they are granted to women as well (the 19th amendment, which is the only one to specifically mention gender) that document is both racist and sexist.

Not entirely correct.ACA provided the opportunity to get health INSURANCE, possibly at a reduced price.Emergency health care was already available, often at no charge to the patient, being paid for from taxes, to nearly all of those who purchased health insurance under the ACA, due to Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), passed in 1986.

    1. President Obama is actually mulato, but having a father from Kenya and a mother from the United States, he actually does fit the description of “African American”?

    2. Wiley noted he prepared this theme some time before the occupation of the Malheur refuge. I’ve spent many years around the likes of he Bundys around the west, all those states, and the attitude toward Obama’s background was quite the topic for many, even “old time” Democrats, and not just cowboy types. Yes, it was about race, which:

    3. The other element is kind of interesting with Trump et al saying send all the Mexicans home, as Spanish was spoken out here in the west and southwest for over 200 years before the Anglos showed up from back east. The Oregon “cowboy” term by the way is “buckaroo” from the old Spanish “Vaquero”.

Cultural histories, and yes, prejudice and bigotry, are very interesting indeed.

The Constitution is a document to establish limits on the government and prevent it from becoming what government always becomes, an ultimate authority allowing no freedom for its property citizens except to do as they are told or suffer the consequences. The difference between a limited government that serves the people and a limited people who serve the government is rather clear.

BTW, if anyone ever calls you a ‘reverse racist’ just say "thank you.’ The reverse of racist, would be to not be a racist. To those that use the argument that President Obama is half white, so I’m allowed to hate him, or at least half of him, because he doesn’t look white, well, really? Most Americans of African decent have different amounts of European backgrounds, for various reasons, some better then others, so, what really is your argument? And yes, I know this is a bit of a run on sentence, but don’t really have time to edit for the grammar police. :P

In some cases militancy is what it took to get where we are. Marcus Garvey and Malcolm X brought the militancy out of some blacks with their “Back to Africa!” and Nation of Islam teachings, respectfully. In fact, Malcolm X’s parents met at a convention of the Universal Negro Improvement Association, an organization that was founded by Garvey and Malcolm X was heavily influenced by Garvey’s teachings. In the 1960’s riots were used as a way to bring attention to the plight of black in America and force at least some government action. Many times, though the riots, which were almost never part of the original plan, began as peaceful marches and degenerated into mayhem and chaos when racist and sometimes non racist but fearful mayors and/or governors would send in police and/or the National Guard to try and disperse the mass of humanity that had peacefully gathered. Other times the riots were in reaction to heinous acts committed by whites that went unpunished and sometimes even when they were punished. This is what we saw in 1992 with the Rodney King riots in Los Angeles in 1992 and in 2015 in Ferguson and in Baltimore, even though the Baltimore death that sparked the riots was ruled a homicide. As far as the need for events like the Miss Black ______ pageants, they will likely be around until pageants and other events (I’m looking at you Academy Awards) like Miss America and Miss USA do a better job accurately representing the melting pot that is the United States.
