The “Fairness doctrine” stopped George Takei from running for office in the 70’s because his appearance in Star Trek SYNDICATION RERUNS had to be matched by screen time for his opponents. Of course, the opponents had the opportunity to use that time to present their political agenda, while George was pretending to be Mr. Sulu.
