When I started reading 9 chickweed lane, I noticed that the comments were off. As I got to know the strip, I realized why…even with regular comic strips, the comments sometimes get a little out of hand. Imagine what it would be like on those two strips!! However, I know for a fact that there are web forums dedicated to them, so all is not lost…
Yes. There are private groups on facebook. Search using the name either comic strip and you can request to join. Spammers are removed and there are some limits on the discussion but the general idea is friendly positive discussion. If people make filthy comments, they are no longer allowed to contribute or participate in the group.
Please note: Mr. McE is does not participate in either group and has made a point of saying he welcomes positive feedback via email.
@Chromosome is sort of correct. Mr. McE actually initially requested that there not be a comments board on his comics. Universal Uclick wanted to at least test it on all strips. Some people abused the opportunity by making routine filthy nature regarding characters in these comics. Due to the frequency of issues of flagged comments, Mr McE and Universal decided it was best to not have a comments section for either comic. My understanding is that the source was multiple users, otherwise universal could have simply removed a single poster’s account. The comments on here about Brooke, 9 Chickweed Lane and Pibgorn came about because of a comment (which has since been deleted) which asked about them.
As someone who is a long-time follower (20 years or so) of Brooke’s work, and who was a frequent commenter at GoComics when he allowed comments, I can say that we had a wonderful group of commenters for several years. There were occasional posts with nasty comments, but not many, certainly there were no more trollings than there were spams, at least for the first few years. Unfortunately, there was another group outside the realm of GoComics which decided in 2010 that Brooke, his comics, and his followers should all be trolled, which they proceeded to do with the most extreme nastiness any of us had ever seen.
As his fans, those of us who enjoyed the comics along with the comments even went so far as to enlist computer programming experts to track down the offending parties and work with Uclick’s people to ban them, but it was an impossible task. It saddened us greatly when Brooke had them delete the comments, and the suddenness of it shocked us, but we moved on. I am glad that GoComics was able to reach a compromise that kept the strips here.
Regarding the name of the group, we called ourselves the Comfortable Couch of Confusion because the Pibgorn storylines were often very hard to follow, so we’d “pick a cushion” and talk about what was going on in the comic, which eventually led to discussing other things. It wasn’t considered bad form at the time to discuss other subjects, as similar groups happened on other strips.
The art on this strip appears to be drawn by Mason Mastroianni, who is Johnny Hart’s grandson. Does anyone know what happened to Jeff Parker, the man who was doing it until December? I have to admit I like his art better, though I’m sure in time I’ll forget to notice the differences.

Doesn’t being rejected by a bunch of humans have an effect on your view of yourself?

There’s the Comfy Couch o’ Confusion, which arose when the comments sections on Pib and Chickweed got pulled. It’s a nice bunch over there :)

It isn’t disrespectful, it is an honest question and I also wondered about this.

So…he beached himself because he was a hypochondriac who thought he was dying? Or if not, what is the point?

I agree “hydrophobia” would make more sense other than then being mistaken for rabies.
