Ralph: It's interesting how they put a vending machine right next to the exit in "bulk club." It's like a last-ditch effort to get more money out of you!
Patrick: Mom! Can I get some bubble gum?
June: We just bought an industrial size tub of bubble gum!!

A vending machine right next to the store exit; a last-ditch effort to get even more money out of you. Hey, pretty darned effective, at that!

I remember as a kid in the 1960’s visiting Disneyland, and my Grandfather mentioning this in reference to the gift stands near the exits: “They try to squeeze every last nickel out of you!”

I don’t know about all of them, but Costco puts a snack counter (pizza, hot dogs, drinks, etc.) between the register and the exit. Along with vending machines. And it’s actually welcome – after spending an hour shopping, you really want to sit down and eat something.
