“I don’t know” was an answer and should be paid for.
This will be my last post for the next five weeks. My wife and I are heading to Germany and the Netherlands on holiday. We start with the passion play in Oberammergau and end on a house boat in Amsterdam.
Actually, Magellan made it to the Malay Peninsula on an earlier voyage, so he completed his circumnavigation of the globe in the Philippines, and the rest came in second when they got back to Spain.
@Yukoner – I just saw the Passion Play in Oberammergau this June. We had front row seats, and it was amazing! The rest of our trip was in Bavaria, Switzerland, Austria and northern Italy. Awesome! I hope you have as much fun as we did. :-)
No, Magellan is not the first to sail/ circumnavigate the world. Think, much, much earlier. Not the Chinese either. way before them as well. Give up? Noah, his wife, sons, and their wives. The boat/ aquatic vessel is there, Mt. Ararat.
Actually, James Lewis is assuming facts not in evidence, and I don’t mean the validity of the Biblical account, which I accept as well. Truth is, from the information we are given, the ark could have gone all around the globe, or it could have gone back and forth several times within an arc of less than 180 degrees. We frankly are not told.
This reminds of the Green Acres show when Mr. Haney took over the phone company and began to charge a great deal of money for information. When Oliver Wendell Douglas demanded to know how he could charge so much for information, Haney informed him that he was putting a charge on his account for the answer to that question.

Well. Clark, since you asked, it was technically Juan Sebastian del Cano and his crew, as Magellan was killed in what is now the Philippines.
