Do they have to be whole or can they just be tiny fragments taken from 17 individual sprouts. If you come up with a ritual like this, people are going to science it to see what loopholes work.
Since no one else has mentioned-think of the fun she could have pulling the Brussels sprouts out of her nose one by one in class-I can hear Felicia and her crew having the vapors now (although most 10-year old boys would think it pretty cool.

When no one was looking, Lex Luthor shoved forty Brussels sprouts up his nose. He shoved 40 sprouts. That’s as many as four tens. And that’s terrible.
