Somebody appropriated this generation’s sense of humor.

Remember when we stopped keeping score and started giving every kid a trophy? Those kids are in college now.

These are the ones who will save our country…..right?

These are the ones who have curtailed our liberties and free speech, while simultaneously going soft on crime and punishment. You can see the results everywhere in society today.

Those people can take their over-sensitivity and shove it up their [REMOVED] with a cactus.:(Hey, for all you know, the word is “chimney.”)

At Mississippi State University in the late 1960s the Student Senate seized control of the campus newspaper for printing a single four letter word, the “s” one, in the context of a lyric quoted from the rock musical “Hair”. Actually, the real reason was that the Student Senate was the bastion of the conservative (read as segregationis and backwardt) students and the newspaper, “The Reflector,” was staffed largely by liberal (i.e., hippie commie pinko freak) students. The Council changed the locks on the paper’s offices and appointed their own handpicked staff and re-opened the paper as the official organ of their own political and social point of view. The dismissed staff, including the ELECTED editor, founded a free underground paper called “FRIENDS of the Reflector” and kept up the good fight. Revenge at year’s end was in the form of editorial comment and reportage supporting the ousted staff that was slipped into the Yearbook/Annual without the Senate’s knowledge until it was too late to do anything about it. Yeah, I was there. Still an unrepentant hippie commie pinko freak today.

As each generation ages we hear the same complaints about the younger generations. The same type of complaints we heard from our older generation. Look at how screwed up the world is today. Who is to blame? Can’t be the younger generation, they’re not in power. The older generation? Maybe, look what they handed to us. Basically it is a blame game. “I will not accept responsibility for how messed up the world is. It is somebody’s fault but not mine, even though I was in control.” We lament how the younger generation doesn’t learn from our “Wisdom”. Seem to me that they do, too well.Maybe the real problem is that every generation in its time will do as well as we have. Sad!

Good comments from both sides of the aisle……but most of this crew coming up could not do what the WWII crew did…..

The Delicate Snowflakes who need Safe Places and party-line ideological-speak are the same thugs and bullies who try to intimidate or physically harm anyone who dares to oppose them. And the professors who support them are worse.I hope we survive, but I’m not overly sanguine….

Social Justice Warriors

There was a Communist Revolution on campus.But it was only televised on the internet, and mostly FaceBook and Twitter at that, though there was some YouTube! and Vine stuff.

When I was at university in the 60’s -70’s we didn’t stop a speaker just because we didn’t like what they had to say. Nor did we boo them. We let them come and then DISCUSSED the differences. Now the liberal punks just ban the speaker and feel that they have power. What they don’t know it seems is that when you get into the world and WORK (dirty 4 letter word) there will be people with different views that you can’t just ban, but have to talk to. University was a place to do that. Not now. And I note that it is primarily the liberal kids and professors that are banning conservative speakers like C. Rice. This is a change from the post by JimmJonzz. It isn’t the conservatives that have done this now. In fact, is there a conservative university anywhere in the country? Don’t know any.

Wow, I wondered where Trump was getting his support. I know Sanders’ demographic is stupid children, and Clinton’s the average Dem, but Trump? Now, having read the comments, I know that Trump’s demographic is gocomics readers.

This is such utter BS. I have two kids in college – hard working, athletes and scholars. They know how to lose, they know how to win, and they know that winning or losing is in general totally irrelevant to living a good life and making a good living. They exercise free speech just fine, and nobody blocks their speech. I have heard this same garbage for decades, and it’s just nonsense. I like Pearls, but good God! Pastes, you’re being the oversensitive ninny.

It is not the, “To whom do we owe this pleasure?” concept that I had hoped for today’s celebration.

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if that “My child can do no wrong, I’ll have that teacher fired!” generation aren’t staunch republican voters.

In the mid to late 70’s I attended Polytechnic Institute of New York (Brooklyn Polytechnic Institute and now assimilated into NYU). I had a class on the History of Science and Technology for one of my Liberal Arts classes. The Professor was an “exchange professor” from another University in which PINY had a cross teaching/class arrangement. The other school want to offer engineering classes but was not accredited at the time for engineering curriculum. Anyway, you had the right to view you opinions but on any assignment, if you did not hint at or outright state that everything will eventually lead to the worldwide communist revolution, then the most you would get on any assignment would be a score of 65. You needed a 70 or grater to pass the course. All it took was one assignment for the whole class to figure that out. The first assignment, the class average score of 55 and after when we realized what was happening, the average grades became 85 for all the following test and quizzes. Did any of the students believe that, maybe one at most out of 20 there but why but heads on a class, at the time, was nit a important, in our eyes, as the Advance Water Supply or Air Frame Structures.

Ssyrie is absolutely right. A relative of mine raised an aged 31 (now) screaming “me-me” when she can’t get what she wants. She literally screams like a 2 year old when/if someone tells her “no” so daddy can step in “make it right for his little girl”. it’s disgusting and disturbing…she’ll never grow up…no responsibilities, no job, and a college grad.

You got that right!

A increasing number of comedians won’t play universities any longer, as the overly PC infringe on free speech.

Students are the very definition of “thin-skinned” these days.

20 years? That would be me and no there was no such thing as “participation” trophy when I went to school.

Got a doctorate and taught for 10 years and I really wonder just that “what happened to universities?”

Well, your argument might have merit if it were based on facts. However, the fact is that when you have the precious snowflakes at several campuses around the country seeking out their safe spaces and feeling “violated” because someone chalked “Trump 2016” on the sidewalks, your argument really has no merit.

Not every incidence of two dimensional shallow thinking presented on the internet is trolling. Some people are sincere and earnest in their beliefs. History indicates that humanity is given to simplified beliefs that avoid reality whenever possible as a matter of course.

I was in grad school at UW-Madison during the 80s. The campus radicals would throw bags of feces at CIA recruiters during job fairs. What we are seeing now is the logical end result of that kind of mindset.

A whole bunch of students here in Columbia. Missouri need to see this, but sadly, the morning paper doesn’t carry Pearls.
