Pray that the tax return you are working on today has not already been filed and collected by someone you will never know.

Saying it “did nothing” is a bit of an exaggeration, it successfully framed the war as being against slavery, making it politically more difficult for the British to intervene on behalf of the Confederacy. Whether they would have or not, it was a major fear at the time.

Also of course, it set the stage for the eventual abolition of slavery throughout the entire country.

“Emancipation Day is a holiday in Washington DC to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Compensated Emancipation Act, which president Abraham Lincoln signed on April 16, 1862. It is annually held on April 16.” It’s only a holiday in DC, as far as I know, but that is where the IRS is headquartered. This year April 16 falls on a Saturday (today) so the holiday was moved back to Friday, April 15.

umm.. not to nitpick, but assigning homework over the weekend/holiday changes nothing for the teacher. Not assigning homework due on the Friday before the weekend would have given Mrs. Olsen the weekend off to do her taxes instead of grading the homework.

treesareusWhich is why Texas celebrates Juneteenth, the date emancipation was enforced in the state..Night-Gaunt49Most British historians consider the War of 1812 to be The Second War of American Independence because they made no more attempts to retake the US. It was really just a sideline to the Napoleonic Wars and the casus belli of drafting Americans to fight on the side of Britain was not even mentioned in the peace treaty. With Napoleon defeated, they had no need for carronade fodder, indeed had an unemployment problem.

That’s very strange. Unless Mrs. Olsen has a lot more resources than are visible, her taxes should take all of 15 minutes with Turbo Tax or similar.
