Passed on, is no more, ceased to be, expired, gone to meet his maker, a stiff, bereft of life, resting in peace, pushing up the daisies, his metabolic processes are now history, kicked the bucket, shuffled off his mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible — (paraphrased from Monty Python’s Dead Parrot Sketch)

I had to do most of the Parrot Sketch when my mother passed away and I tried to get that across to the call center at Dish Network. They couldn’t seem to grasp the concept that I wasn’t just trying to change her service to a different address.

Well, then those who are cream(ated)…they are never letdown…. Togetherness….that’s no fun…..Of course, there are those in war who are killed in unison. Or are we really being morbid?

Bought the farm was what we used in Vietnam. But I for one prefer the old tried and true phrase, dead or he/she died. No euphemism Just tell the truth. For some reason people in general, in almost every society, don’t even want to admit to themselves that they are going to die. However, no matter how much people want to deny the truth, every single mothers son/daughter is going to die.For some reason my family- Norweigen, second generation-with records going back over 1000 years, does not in talking or writing pretend that people don’t die. We are all very forthright about the subject of death and dying.Just remember, no one is going to escape, everybody dies

When mentioning my genealogy stuff, I mention that "he went underground (fill in date) which repulses some, giggles others and gets the point across.

If I ever “pass away” instead of die, I hope to go to a land where volcanoes spout beer nonstop and stripper factories abound. Most likely though, I’ll just be underground thinking, “It’s dark in here.”
