Quite a vocabulary she’s got, for a little kid. But notice, she was still a toddler a month ago, now she and CB are nearly the same age—and I always thought from later strips that she was a year or two older.
As for her use of an unusual expression here…. She might have overheard the term “grand coup” if her parents played Whist or Bridge, and got a general sense of its value without knowing an exact definition.
“The 1950s were the height of bridge popularity in the US; the joke was probably based on the idea of her having heard the term and assuming it applied to any game at hand.
.
Mostly, I wanted to mention that Charles Schulz was a bridge fiend. Recently, About Comics published a collection of his short-lived panel gag strip ’It’s Only a Game’, which is all jokes about sports and games. One out of every three strips is a bridge strip."

A grand coup? What, is Charlie Brown supposed to be the neighborhood checkers champion nobody can beat?

Fa warmup for when she holds the football for him to kick.

A ‘grand coup’ is actually a term from bridge, not checkers!

Vocabulary is directly related to what a child hears in early childhood from parents or his/her significant care-giver.
