When I was a kid, and came down sick, I always thought “Goody, I get to lay on the couch and watch TV all day!” with only 3 channels, maybe 4 if the wind was right, it was never as great as I imagined it would be. We were never allowed to just stay inside and watch TV. If it was raining out, Mom had the TV in the living room, usually tuned to whatever soaps she watched. (as I remember, it was Days of Our Lives, and As the World Turns.) We had our toys in our bedrooms, and played in there. Toys weren’t allowed in the living room, because we always got too loud, lol.At 5 and 6 years old and up, we had the run of the neighborhood. We had our boundaries, but that was plenty big enough. We probably had close to 40 yards to play in. Cops and Robbers, Army, Cowboys and Indians, Bicycle races, all of the cliches of today. Of course, this was a fairly small town in the late 60’s (I was born in ’63), so there was a lot less to worry about than there is today, or we just worried less.It was a great time to be a kid.

Now you know how I feel living in Florida! But I do schedule a couple of hours to read floating in my pool.

I remember playing outside. A whole lot better than sitting on your butt playing video games.
