I had one as a kid about Linus’ age here. Still remember it fondly! Mine had a wooden screwdriver as well and a couple of wooden “screws” to put in the board. It was great.

However, Linus got the square peg in the round hole, the triangle peg in the square hole and the round peg in the square hole quite nicely!

Is this the first strip where Linus had any dialogue?

They don’t make things the way they used to, and they probably never did!

Linus was proving that any tool can be the right tool long before Red Green!

We had 2 versions of this. One was like orinoco womble described with screws and a screwdriver. The other one had the crosspiece at the middle of the supports so you could hammer the pegs in, then turn it over and hammer them the other way. That one was used most, over and over.
