Thanks for your concern. I am alive and well. The terrible devastation and deaths and injuries resulting from Sat.‘s earthquake here in Ecuador occurred much further to the north of us. We felt some of the initial shock but none of the aftershocks and Machala, where I live, experienced no disruptions in power or structural damages. We were very blest.
I’ll make this short, since internet gods are acting up and twice automatically rebooted me when I was in the middle of this post – thus losing everything that I’d written.
Suffice it to say that the people of Ecuador are very resilient ( mas duro, mas fuerza ) and will get through this terrible tragedy. The blow to the coastal cities could not have come at a worse time, given the current economic situation in the country due to the petroleum crises. But somehow, someway, the country will, as it has always done, pull itself together and carry on.
For you who are so inclined, a prayer for them wouldn’t hurt !
So. Have the Job Centre pretty much gave up trying to find Andy work?
If you ask me. They have wasted their time right from the very beginning! By the way, I’ve been told to avoid Recruitment Agencies because apparently they take part of your wages. Easier said than done. A lot of jobs are linked to Recruitment Agencies.
I think I’ve said it before: They need to find Andy a low or unskilled job, preferably involving hard labor, and REQUIRE him to take it. If he quits or is fired within the first six months, his dole money is permanently cut off. Flo can get along on her own without him.
