While working at a college library, I once got a call from an older woman who had found a few books that her husband had checked out back in the 1950s when he’d gone to the place. She kept going on for quite some time, and it took several people talking to her to reassure her that we had no intention of pursuing a late fine for something that had probably been dropped from the system decades ago. This lady was TERRIFIED.
Had this on the cubicle divider behind my desk in the library where I worked. For years! We had no little old lady librarians with dowager’s hump, so I had to imagine her with a cracked voice. It cracked me up. Oh, and the Attila the Hun hat was a nice touch ;D
This is easily one of my all-time favorite Bloom County cartoons, just as librarians are some of my all-time favorite people. They made excellent girlfriends, too, so check out a librarian.
You know your librarian is someone with a good sense of humor and good taste if she has a tattered and graying old copy of this tacked to her cork board in her office.
IMHO, it’s one of the top ten Bloom County comics of all time – and that’s some pretty fierce competition!
When I was in high school and I checked out books at our local library, the librarian would sometimes call my parents before she let me leave with my choices. Many decades ago now, but I clearly remember her shaking her head when my mother told her that I could read a 007 novel and mumbling under her breath how she was glad that Ian Fleming was dead so he couldn’t write any more books.

Hmm, a battle axe with a battle axe. If my terminology offends you, feel free to transpose.

There is a really funny Seinfield episode from the 90’s called “The Library Cop” about a seriously overdue book!

I will not read it here, I will not read it there! I will not read it in a house, I will not share it with a mouse!- RIP Theodore Geisel

One of my favorite from Bloom country. I had nightmare like this when younger and missing exams by days.
