The greatest influence on my life, growing up, was my grandmother. I was closer to her than I was to her daughter ( my mother ) ar anyone else in the family. If I could be a fraction of the guide and role model for my grandchildren, as she was for me, I would be thrilled.

My grandmother raised me. I was 8 when I moved in with her and grandpa.

Opal spends most of her time knitting and crocheting.

I’ve got letters from Grammy that are 60-65+ years old. . .

@beviek: agree. Nelson’s really lucky—a grandmother who writes notes to him, and a grandpa who talks with him. . .

One of my grandsons doesn’t like me talking to him or singing along with his cartoons…… He may not like it now, but I bet he always remembers. And one day it will be his turn to be a grampa, if he is lucky.

I still have all the letters and cards my grandmother ever wrote to me. Now that she is gone, I am so glad I kept them. I will cherish them for the rest of my life.

You people are all very lucky to have had grandparents as I never knew any of mine. The had all died before I was born.

Just yesterday, I asked my 81-year-old Grandma about HER Grandma, and she had so many kind and treasured memories. I love Pickles, but please do not imply that love notes from a Grandmother are the product of idleness…
