    Panel two is the exact opposite of panel three.

    Coming up on our 42nd anniversary next month, I can say the most important words for a long marriage are “yes, dear.” It defines the battles we choose because when we take exception it is noticed.

    After five tries, I think I’ve finally got this marriage thing figured out.The world runs much smoother if you simply agree with her, smile, say nothing and do what she wants, when she wants, and how she wants.Yeah….right !“You honked, dear ? " :)

    “Drive your partner like an old car”? Does he even listen to himself? How would he like it if he overheard Elly say that about him? As for honking, I have another suggestion. If she’s a goose maybe she ought to flap him on the rump with her wings!

    It’s easy folks, the key to a successful marriage? Don’t get married. Happily unmarried to the love of my life for 22 years.

    I think as a metaphor, the 3rd panel follows up on the 2nd: when you drive your car for long, you know exactly when to push, when to cajole, when to fix and when to let go. Idiosyncrasies are just that – something outsiders may not understand but a loved one will empathize with, and maybe even adore. He just puts it the way he (and any other guy) would understand quicker.

    The 4th panel is just for humor.

    Marriage is not 50-50, it’s a sliding scale based on the needs of each person in the relationship. If each person understands this, then there is likely a good chance the relationship will be somewhat successful, if not then….!

    There’s a very simple secret to marriage.

    Don’t get divorced.

    If both of you take that as a given, everything else can be worked through.

    @Numbnumb

    Know exactly what you mean. I have let my mouth overload my …eh… well you know… more times than I care to think about.

    And now I get to do it in Spanish.

    Unfortunately for me. my flippancy loses nothing in the translation,

    As hubby once said, the road to a happy marriage is Vengeance! But, in actuality, it’s Compromise.
