The “she” woke him up.

This is meant to be funny. But it reminds me of Alzheimer’s.

If your wife/girlfriend is a constant chatterer, you develop a filter. It takes a few seconds for the filter to react when she says something way out of the ordinary. Arlo could have been lost in thought as she nattered on, and when she said she’d met someone and was moving out, the filter interrupts Arlo’s chain of thought with alarm bells and he reacted, it just took a couple of seconds. He isn’t twenty anymore, after all, and his reactions are slower.

That’s the kinda-sorta plot line of “When Night Is Falling”.

Localhost is right. It was the word “she” that finally got his attention.

Sorry, but now I can’t stop thinking about Janis and a female circus acrobat.

Some men fantasize about having a “3 ring circus”. I can only focus on one act at a time!

So Janis wants to trapeze the light fantastic.

How about she knows he’s deep in thought and throws this out to see how far she can take it.

I do that to my husband sometimes, it is always fun to see him suddenly react.

Hmmm…. or could it be that Janis is bi-curious?
