Yesterday we went to see some property that is being looked after by one of the women who fosters for us. It belongs to her sister who is in a rest home. We went just because there are 2 day old mute swans in one of the ponds.
I took a lot of pictures and a few vids. Mom and dad have been there for 8 yrs now. They were at the far end and when dad saw us on the bridge, he made a flying beeline for us, honking. Then he put his feet down and skidded right up to us. By then, mom and the babies were slowly making their way to us. Wendy feeds them a corn mixture and lettuce. The parents stir up the bottom of the pond so the food rises to the top for the babies to eat. I’m going to post a couple of pictures.
Bummer! I was just commenting on the picture of the robin’s nest yesterday when my computer time ran out and the computer shut down before I could hit "submit"1 I was just saying that I work in a garden center and a few years ago, we had robins nesting in some of our plants. The Asian lilies had finished blooming and should have been marked down half price so we could sell them, but our store manager didn’t believe in marking things down, so there they sat with customer barely looking at them. So the robins built a nest in there. Few customers even seemed to notice, but garden center associates watched in awe as eggs were laid and hatched and the baby birds grew from scrawny fearherless things to fully feathered birds. One day, they were suddenly gone – flew away. What a treat it was to witness that up close. of course, i brought my camera in a few times and took some pictures.
Love today’s pictures, as always. The one about the way managers look at you when you ask for the day off is all too true!
Great stuff today as always. The kitten with the bob tail has a medical issue so I found that one cute/sad at the same time! Odd emotion..
Be careful out there friends. It’s Friday, so humans catch a bit of the “cat crazies”. I try to stay out of the way just like I do at home with my 7 house cats when that happens.
Last year a pair of black swans brought off a clutch of cygnets in a tiny pond near our house. A few days later I saw two Brown Whistling Ducks leading a train of at least two dozen ducklings through our subdivision. It turns out, their nests can have up to 30 or more eggs
Really cute pics today, really liked the police cat one :-)
@Queen, those are cute cygnets I’m always surprised how big they are when that young. I like swans much better than the Canada Geese that take over our local parks with ponds
Not sure if Dean was surprised or indignant when I took his picture last night :-) He’d spent the last hour chasing bugs on the other side of the window and needed a rest

@daleandkristen
The nests I see here are all to high to get a good look at.
When will these hatch?-——————————————-
I’m surprised none have done so yet. Today all mamas/pops are on the nests as it is raining (again). Found a nest this morning with a mourning dove. Wish I could see a cardinal’s nest. One of Mark’s customers may have a good shot at taking pictures of the nest outside her house. If I see any feeding activity I’ll ask her to try.
@bbear: Christopher begs to differ…my dear cat LOVES to sleep in HIS bed (also in bags, boxes, cat perches and crispy tunnels) with the red cover made by QueenOfAmerica.
Queen: Your swan pics are fantastic…how stately (correct word to describe a swan?) and utterly magnificent are the adults…and kiddies too cute. Wow, that property is one I could be happy to live at.

This is the little island where the next was. Wendy said as soon as they all hatched, mama put them into the water.

I am most annoyed. I can only see about 3 of the pictures. The rest is just blank squares.
