Yup, folks complain about the roughness of line-dried towels, but they are great for exfoliating. You can also soften them after removing them from the line by tossing them for a minute or two in the dryer.
I had an aunt who just could not get this out of her head. You washed clothes and then hung them out according to her. I put fabric softener in anytime I used her washing machine.
Not only do I detest fabric softeners and dryer sheets, but I just can’t understand the appeal of scented laundry products including detergents. The odor is about as “spring time fresh” as a visit to a Dow Chemical plant. And don’t get me started on the edible version – Cool Whip.
Energy conservation requires thinking. I run a 5kw air conditioner to remove heat and humidity from the inside of my house. My dryer uses 6kw while drying clothes. Since the dryer doesn’t have an outdoor supply vent, It is using the cool air, heating and blowing it outside, and replacing it with hot humid air from the outside. The air conditioner has to run continuously to replace the air the dryer used.It is over 90F and my clothes dry faster on the umbrella dryer with clothes pins than in my dryer and the air conditioning is coasting.
Gweeedo,You can also get soft, line dried towels just by giving them a couple of extry sharp shakes to loosen up the fibers, then line dry…nice and fresh and soft. I did it for years that way. And the smell is GREAT..

Yo, you in the shower. Exfoliate that stuff in the garage or in the back yard. It’s not in the wife’s handbook to clean that mess up"

It’s a shame, but outdoor clotheslines are forbidden in many “communities” these days…
I think we need to put the community back in our communities…

Hey Sibyl in Nebraska! That was my mama’s name, spelled just the same. And yep, she hung the laundry out, unless it was cold or rainy.
