Good try Liz, but I wouldn’t hold my breath… After years of marriage, hubby and I still talk better on the phone than face to face :-)

My wife does that and then expects me to start. To top it off, she doesn’t like what I want to talk about………..

Why do Garfield’s whiskers stick out of his ears?
BudLyte about 14 years ago
Garfield’s an old cat. We all get whiskers coming out of our ears eventually.

I’ve never noticed that before….kind of like one of Dagwood’s haircuts.

Liz, take it easy with Jon. He’s nervous.

I don’t know about other guys, but I can’t concentrate on what I want to say when I’m looking at a girl’s eyes. My best conversations were when I was driving a car and had an excuse to keep my eyes on the road instead of on her eyes.
Now, about that first panel, why did Jon just sit there for the 20 minutes it would take to fire all those spit-balls at him.

Um… Jon has a different facial expression in each panel of the second row - OK, so his mouth moves. I suspect Jim was concentrating on the story.

~ So far as the spitball thing, he may have been forcing himself to stay in one spot to keep from mangling the offending creature who dares to tempt his ire and fate.
~ Regarding the frames being so similar, I read that as showing Jon’s feeling trapped in an uncomfortable and unfamiliar situation (real face to face communication).
~ And regarding the hair in his ears, isn’t Garfield over the magic age of 50 when hair sprouts out of all sorts of places? Remember, this is a PG environment. ;-)

Actually, Garfield’s whiskers have always stuck out of his ears.

I’ve always had trouble talking to new girls, but once I get to know them as well as Jon knows Liz, no problemo. I like talking as much as most girls like to.

I love the first panel. Why keep your mouth open like that while Garfield is blowing spitballs?
