Good thinking outside the box, Rodney.

Why didn’t the pre-Arthurians think of this? This is positively genius on Rodney’s part.

I was gonna say that a hacksaw wouldn’t cut a saw till I remembered that it was probably not heat treated steel.

He should take the sword to a blacksmith, not a headsman.

Seems rather appropriate for Rodney, able to show off the hilt of his sword sticking out of his scabbard without ever having to actually poke somebody with the sharp end.

How did he get his sword INTO the stone anyway?

A variation on how Alexander the Great solved the puzzle of the Gordian Knot (he sliced through it with his sword). But is Rodney a cheapskate who saw what he thought was a free sword? Or does he know the legend and will try to pass off the repaired sword as proof that he removed it from the stone and should be king (if he tries that, the follow up strip will show him chained to a wall in the dungeon). A first panel giving us his motivation would have made the gag funnier.

It occurs to me that a jack-hammer to the stone might have been a better option.
