Danae: How long are you going to stare at that little creek?
Lucy: Until I'm sure it's safe to cross.
Danae: Oh, c'mon!
Lucy: Ok, ok...wait...*gasp* That looks like it might be the......PISCATAQUA RIVER MONSTER!
Danae:...Or a polly-wog.
Lucy: Same thing.

My horse has no trouble with rivers, creeks, ponds, but waves at the beach, you’d think he’d seen Jaws.

We all have our fears, … real or imagined. I don’t do ladders but love planes, tall buildings and Ferris wheels. go figure

My wife’s horse was reluctant to cross a stream emanating from a restaurant in our town.Turned out their septic system was overloaded.

When heading northbound on I-95 and I cross over the Piscataqua River Bridge into Maine, I always feel good…..I’m home and with only 400 more miles of driving to get to my house.

Perhaps next time Danae will know she has to carry Lucy across – not other way round.

I had a horse that refused to cross a blacktopped path. After a 360 degree turn it was like a whole different horse.

You don’t see Trigger, Black Beauty, Flicka, Mr. Ed, Wildfire, or Marigold Heavenly Nostrils getting uppity about crossing over water.

Danae, hasn’t anyone told you not to change horses in the middle of a stream?

I seem to remember the Piscataqua as being a lot bigger.

Oh wow Wiley, that’s one imaginative stuffed pal. Danae lives somewhere between there and that; so Lucy becomes real. Piscataqua river monster or Polly Wag….there ain’t no difference. So look out ever lasting one.

A horse is a prey animal and thus tend to be pretty careful.

Wiley, do you live in Portsmouth, NH or Kittery, ME? The Piscataqua flows right between.

I have a big gelding whom I rode for several miles, but refused to cross a foot wide stream on our way home. I got off and pulled on the reins to encourage him to cross. Off came the bridle and away he went, running out of sight back the way we came. I followed him and hours later got home – there he was waiting. Horses… .

I had to actually Google “pollywog”. It’s a tadpole. Never heard it called anything else but “tadpole”.

Love the river monster!

The horse I used in Arizona wasn’t afraid of the stream, and the owner said he was “great” about quicksand after flooding. Well, he was right, after every storm, “Dudley Do Wrong” would get stuck in every patch of quicksand in the stream and I’d have to hop off. But he was also great and calm in stress, like lightning storms or carrying out injured visitors. BTW the stream WAS the trail for most of the canyon.

Grew up on the Piscataqua. Loved the strip, loved the monster with lobster claws!

My first horse would swim a river given a chance. Creeks, no problem, but puddles were worth stepping around. Even so, one of the bravest horses I’ve ever ridden. My Zen pictured left has no problem with water and loves to splash it. Which one has to be careful about, as a lot of horses that enjoy pawing the water, like rolling in it too, Puddles, no problem, the muddier the better. So far, no inappropriate rolling. :DThen there is Guy,who is much more like Lucy and sees monsters where there are none. I’m thinking he’s seen the Piscataqua River monster all the way in the creek by the barn in Illinois!

Used to own a horse that was scared of chickens…got the bumps and scrapes to prove it.
