Before the 3-point shot the typical pro basketball game was little more than dribble-dribble-dribble-dunk, repeat, repeat, repeat. Now it’s more like it was before the team average height began approaching 7 feet.
Far better would to give the ball back to the team that shoots the free throws to eliminate intentional fouls. It’s the only sport where you deliberately get a penalty in an attempt to increase your score & it totally ruins the game.
Well, I am over 65 and remember back in the day when 7 footers were few and far between and they were not all that athletic. Wilt Chamberlin and Bill Russel clashes were great. But now? People overall are taller and is seems that almost every NBA team as both tall and short squads depending on what the other team does. The Spurs last Championship against the Heat showed basketball being played as it should. But the next year, things were back to normal. This year with Golden State vs Clevland was thought to be a pushover like last year, and except for Green being the very dirty player that he is, getting caught and suspended, they most likely would have won. The remarks by the GS coach really stuck in my craw. Saying that because they were the defending champs, in the finals, that the Refs should turn a blind eye to fouls committed by their dirty player-just how many players did he kick in the groin? Don’t recall who did the dirty deed to Number 20 of the Spurs(Manu) but I think he needed surgery. So, is the NBA going to devolve into a sport like the NHL where every team needs an enforcer to keep the stars from being injured? I hope not, because I still remember when Gordie Howe was blindsided into the wall and was so badly injured he almost died. and he was pretty much an enforcer.I played Senior Hockey with Gordie when he was over 60. He hunched a shoulder and just kind of brushed against a guy I worked with who wound up almost in the stands with a busted collarbone. Gordie apologized, but as we all knew, people get hurt in Hockey. Our teams had 5 former minor league players and 3 retired NHL players, the rest of us were never talented enough to even play at the minor league level, but we all enjoyed playing until we were to old to continue

A four-point shot arc even farther out might be interesting.

In football, a team will deliberately throw an incomplete pass in order to stop the clock in order to give them enough time to score more points.

If you ever go and watch a Harlem Globtrotter’s show, they use the 4 point circle shot as well. It was a lot of fun to watch.

I might start watching basketball again if they create a one-point arc 8 ft around the basket, and raise the basket to 12 ft.
