Touching. The message is, the birds “know” who loved them and come to say good-bye to a friend. And then, as DavidHuieGreen said, other birds come for a different purpose. But remember how the Tibetans dispose of their dead. It looks revolting to me, but surely it’s respectful in their culture.

Hey, it’s Howie! I’ve never seen this strip before as my book collection skipped it. Never knew Howie was the one who found Dick there. Either this or the “Hands Across America” strip from around the same time is Howie’s last appearance.

The birds are even spilling over into the first panel now.

I know a guy who was raised by his Mom and her parents. His grandfather was a mailman and had fixed up a room for himself in the basement. He had three bee hives and he could see each of them from his easy chair in his rec room. He lived like that for years. One day he was in his chair and had a heart attack and he died. The next day the bees were gone.
