I grew strength and character lugging my manual Smith Corona around for 4 years. Though my fingers were black from trying to rewind the ribbon one more time (Worse yet, ink the ribbon), I learn patience and frugality(Like an impoverished student need to learn this). Steady, even pressure got the job done. Correcting my own errors with a little white bottle taught me about pride. I also learned to respect my neighbors who took an unhappy view of my midnight typing’.
That manual taught me a lot. If I only could have taught the T and Y not to jam.
delaterra there are a lot of forms that computers still can’t fill out without a lot of ingenuity. I think I’m pretty good at making templates for forms I use all the time, but there are still times that I must use a typewriter or write it out in my illegible longhand.
My husband still has the Smith-Corona portable that his parents gave him when he left for college. Of course he hasn’t used it in over 40 years…..

It’s surprising that her kids didn’t grow up terribly needy and spoiled. Elly needs to learn that NO means NOOOOOO!!!

So true. It still amazes me what you can get done without kids. But I do have fun with them. The great American novel will have to wait.

delaterra – You can still find typewiters here and there. And not just in museums.
If a I had a nickel for every time I heard the term “paperless revolution” I’d be able to retire wealthy.

@OfficeCat I get snippy with my dog for doing the same thing almost every day, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I hate being a dog owner. :)
