The downed tree blocked the heavy winds that would have knocked the other tree down. It is the least it can do for a fellow neighbor that took the heavy blow.

There are a lot of trees falling here (California) due to roots drying up (no water), and disease. Plus there are many being cut back to prepare for possible fires. But up the street is a big pine that fell, its roots still in the ground. It’s now laying on the ground, and kind of thriving, due to root position. The winds can’t knock it down. We keep watching it, wondering what someone will do to it. I hope they leave it alone.

I guess we can blame evolution for the lack of talking trees in current day…
