If you’ve ever had a dog (or cat) that has run off, even for just an hour, the moment they return is a wonderful feeling. In my younger days, my Golden Retriever went missing for a month. I had just gone through a divorce and he was all I had for companionship. When he returned his paws were worn down….I still wonder what that boy did for all that time, but I was sure glad to have him back. Thank you Mr. Boreman for a great strip! Hopefully, they’ll run it again from the beginning.
But wait, Steve (@sboreman) said that the strip would come to a conclusion at the end of this month, it’s only the 17th. I do hope we are not left hanging with just this. As lovely as the scene is, I do hope more loose ends are tied up (like knowing that Tortoise will also get a home).
Mr. Boreman, I don’t know if you will see this, but I wanted to thank you for the years of enjoyment you have given me. I love LDL and am sad that it has come to an end. I will miss seeing it everyday! Thank You for giving us a happy ending to the story! You are a great cartoonist and LDL is a great comic strip. I hope you have much luck and happiness in wherever life takes you from here. Warmest Regards…..
Oh, I am so sad for me, as I’ve enjoyed this strip for years. But so happy for LD. Such a sweet little dog deserves a good home. And look, his people have been searching for him, with a poster on the fence. ♡ I just hate to see it end.
You know, it occurs to me that this is the first comic strip I’ve really had the chance to follow from the day it began all the way to the end.It was a good run. :)
Thank you Mr Boreman for such a happy and tearful ending. I reminded me of my beagle coming home after she went missing. I am glad we had you all these years. Welcome home LDL we all love you.
As I get older I become more of a marshmallow emotionally. This ending is so happy, I even teared up. Such a good feeling for LDL and his family. I do hope Torti sticks around also! Thanks, Steve!!!
Dear Mr. Boreman, as said above and for all of us who have lost a furry loved one for an hour or forever, thank you for bringing LD home safely. I don’t think any of could stand the strip ending with him still wandering. I don’t need to know his name, but I would LOVE to see him leap into his man’s arms. I hope the strip continues to the end of the month and then picks up in re-runs. We are all very attached to the world you have created and to its inhabitants. Thank you!
The icon I drew years ago to represent me really does so this morning. Thank you, Mr. Boreman, for this delightful strip; the tear is for me, not LDL — bless him, he’s home!
I have a farm along with other farmers of land of about 2 square miles just north of Detroit in Oakland Co. Coon dogs show up every now and then from out of area hunters who had gone home without their dog.
LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS! BUT, THIS IS NOT THE END OF THE MONTH AS OTHERS HAVE SAID! Using CAPS to show HOW MUCH I love this strip! All good things must come to an end, I guess, CRAP! So as someone wise once said, and I am sure I will repeat this before the final strip,
“Don’t Cry because it’s over, SMILE because IT HAPPENDED”!
I’m reading this with my schnauser on my lap and hugging him sooooooo tight!I had a beagle when I was a boy and I can testify: when they run off, they will be gone a looonngg time. But they will be home….eventually.Thank you, Steve, for a great story!Love the ending. (Unless there is still a little epiloge.)
Thank you thank you thank you for a happy ending. There are not enough of those in life. I just had to put one of dogs to sleep a few weeks ago and could not have handled a sad ending. I am writing this blubbering like an idiot. Sorry to see this end, but what a great way to go. THANK YOU.
I need to add one more thing. Thank you Steve for blessing us with your talent and giving us LDL for so many days. I will miss the joy you brought us with LDL and will miss LDL just like my own dogs.
Oh what a beautiful ending ! Yes, I will miss Little Dog & Tortoise, but look at his owner, running to welcome him home ! I’ve been on that end of a lost animal too – what a blessing !
I’m SO glad LDL remembered where he was, finally, and remembered his way home!!! Glad to see that his person is running to greet him, and that his little tail is wagging like mad. I hope that wonderful ol’ turtle was able to keep up with LDL, and will be able to have a home with him.
This brings back memories from many years ago, when my beloved Beagle, Missey, got loose in the foothills of Hermann, MO. She was gone for three days, running deer, while we were out on horseback looking for her. We could hear her, but could never find her. She came in on her own, covered in ticks (took hours to pick those off) and her feet were sliced to ribbons because of all the shale on the hills. Got her cleaned up at the farm, and then headed home to the vet to get all four feet stitched up. She slept for a week when we got home! This is why LDL has always meant to much to me. I’m a Beagle junkie, and still miss my two Beagle girls.
I hope LDL lands in the lap of luxury, after his trek around the countryside with his wonderful ol’ turtle buddy.
