Never used them, but were Luckys unfiltered? So wouldn’t it have all been “Up Front”?

plus, 10-year-olds don’t really have all that much to admire if you’re 10 yourself.Decades later, much has changed. But now our Janis admirer will make some appreciative comment and his non-admirers will castigate him.Rinse and repeat.

The boys didn’t have the internet to surf back then.

Also, I remember that if you took the blue “tape” off the top of the pack some had a star and some didn’t.

I knew it. They’re imagination powered, and the “X-ray” image he sees is from when they were about 20.

The Garry Moore show was sponsored by Winston, and he had to have a lit cigarette in the commercials. He didn’t smoke – hated the habit! – so he never actually put the cigarette into his mouth.

I remember the Camel package. Seriously, did the camel have one or two humps?

Even The Flintsones did cigarette ads. It was a prime time show, not necessarily a kids cartoon, but still…

I remember the story of a group in the 60s that wanted to ban smoking. They named themselves the “League to Save Mankind From Tobacco.” Then someone noted the initials.

Dr McCoyJoe Camel was a dromedary. Bactrians have two humps. Llamas, alpacas, vicuñuas, and guanacos have no humps. Now, aren’t you sorry you brought it up?

“All the best women are thin and rich.” Even at twelve years old I knew that was going to be a MAJOR fail for a feminist cigarette ad!

Once while Jack Benny was sponsored by Lucky Strike, he guest stared on Burns and Allen, planning forvJack and George to do a concert together and arguing about whose sponsor (B&A’s was Maxwell House coffee); announcer Bill Goodwin or Harry Von Zell got into the converrsation with, “In this case ‘LSMFT’ will mean ’Let’s sample Maxwell’s fine taste.’”

A kid’s window-painting contest someplace, focusing on health messages, was won by Joe Chemo, a patchy-haired camel with half a dozen IV tubes running into him.

When I was a child, I would buy my dad a carton of cigarettes for Christmas. Anybody could purchase them in those days and Dad died long ago of emphysema. No, I never smoked.
