Older readers may remember when Art Linkletter had a TV show on which he would interview children. In one segment, he featured an advice service for kids BY kids. One caller wanted to know how to persuade his parents to get a dog. The advisor thought about this, then answered “Ask them for a little brother.”
Foster, yes (with acknowledgement of the warnings posted by others). Lease, #$@%?!!! NO!!!! Adopting or buying a pet is a commitment for the life of that pet – people who acquire an animal and give up on it when it becomes too “hard” should literally be cast from society as the figurative lepers that they are.
One of my coworkers has started pet sitting in her home. That would be like leasing. Dog (or cat) comes for a few days while the family is away. Then, goes back home.
You can foster for your local shelter. You get a new kitten every few months to play with and they get a temp home while they wait to get big enough for adoption. Win/win!

Fostering animals certainly is a possibility, but it takes a strong heart.
