Curse you, Curiosity! How will she ever explain fish bites to her suave ’20s boyfriend? He will accuse her of having hickeys from monkeying around, since her story will sound fishy. There are no monkeys today….
This one had the look of a pickerel, mean and scaly and quite likely to eat his own kind. Yet, she found him charming enough in his own way, and allowed her curiosity to get the better of her, proffering her hand for a genteel kiss, which was frightening enough in itself as he seemed fit to bite off the entire thing out of his own curiosity for whether she might be a tasty morsel to be inhaled in a single moment. Not born to manners then, she decided, and barely playing at displaying them. This only made matters worse, as she contemplated how this specimen came to be within her circle at all, for he was clearly well out of his element. The entire story would be within her grasp soon. This much was certain, whatever may befall her in its acquisition. It could hardly be worse than the eternal boredom that was her current state.
