I rarely comment, but I found this one particularly tasteless. I love B.C., but portraying a domestic dispute that ends in tragedy is not funny to me, personally.

If something like this happened in real-life, we would mourn it as a tragedy. A couple gets into an argument, one of the parties leaves to go for a walk and cool off, only to be killed before returning home. In the real world, sooner or later the person who stayed behind is going to wonder where their partner is at, and eventually become very upset; likely blaming themselves.

I rarely comment on a comic (snerk) but I find marital discord, or domestic dispute/strife hilarious. It is usually entertaining for the neighbors, too. I have seen some doozies.Guy at work got into fight with wife. Wife left out the front door. He left out the back door. Husband went to 7-11 and got a six pack. He returned to the apartments to find a police blockade and SWAT team handy. Guy sat on the hood of his pick up, opened a beer and relaxed. Cop bullhorns got no reply from the apartment.SWAT stepped up, began firing flash-bangs and tear gas into an apartment. Guy realized it was his apartment. He asked a cop what was up. Cop told him woman’s husband was holed up in there with a gun.

It’s funny on one level and it’s dark and slightly unpleasant. Most of the strips involving the eatanter are, since most of them involve sentient, talking, thinking persons being killed and eaten. Think in terms of a cartoon strip about farmers in Myanmar being picked off by tigers – it could be funny in a very grim way, but also a bit offensive and insensitive.

The best comedy is always very close to tragedy – the closer it is, the funnier it is. Look at MASH for one example.

My wife and I were sitting at a table at my high school reunion, and I kept staring at a drunken lady swigging her drink as she sat alone at a nearby table. My wife asked, “Do you know her?”

“Yes,” I sighed, “She’s my old girlfriend. I understand she took to drinking right after we split up those many years ago, and I hear she hasn’t been sober since.”

“My God!” says my wife, “Who would think a person could go on celebrating that long?”

    And then the fight started…

Eatanter? Does this anteater have such a special name in BC?

As for you complainers. Comedy is raw folks. There is some quote (which sadly I can not find) that reads along the lines of “laughter is the baring of teeth.”

    and @legaleagle48

If you think that’s tragic, you don’t want to hear about the life of a real male ant.

Still here? OK, most ants are sterile females; most are workers, and some are soldiers, and they are all sisters. There is a queen ant, who lays all the eggs to populate the ant hill. Then there are a few winged males, known as drones because they have no function other than sex – but most of them will die virgins. When a new queen is needed, the workers give one of the female larva special food to make it into a queen. The new queen grows wings and goes on a mating flight. The lucky drone (one of her brothers) that catches her has sex ONE TIME only. The queen stores his sperm for the rest of her life, so now she can get rid of all the drones. It’s probably just as well that the “lucky” drone dies instead of having a continuing relationship, because the queen grows enormously fat and immobile in order to turn into an egg factory.

And the anteater doesn’t wait for an ant to leave. It digs into the ant hill and pokes its tongue down the tunnels to gather and eat hundreds of ants in one meal. And most people don’t think that’s tragic; they only regret that the anteater usually leaves the queen, the hatching chambers, and enough workers to put the colony back in business, so they’ll still have ants to squash and poison.

Eh, it’s a comic. It’s not biologically accurate, which you should have figured out the first time there was a dinosaur with the cavemen. The characters are not real people. You can laugh at their tragedies.
