This is the cat I call “The Old Tom”. He is the sometimes companion of Dusty. He disappears for weeks at a time, and just when I’ve decided that he has gone the way of the Earth, he shows up again. He showed up 2 nights ago and somebody obviously had cleaned him up and trimmed his coat. This has happened before, but this time he won’t take any food from me. And notice that his ear has not been tipped, so I don’t think that this is the work of a TNR program. Someone is taking care of him, albeit in a sporadic manner.
I struggled to post my pictures today from Photobucket. For some reason, when I clicked on the “direct” button, nothing happened no matter what I tried. Finally in desperation, I clicked on the button that looks like a section of chain and got a box with the familiar buttons. This time they worked and I was able to get working codes to upload pictures here.
Earlier this year my doctor took me off of metformin for my diabetes due to its side effects. I am now controlling my diabetes solely through diet. My A1c was 5.9% 6 months ago. Today, it is 6.1%. Not bad for a guy who was taking two shots a day of insulin five years ago and now is taking nothing at all.
Oliver is so cute. He has all those sounds down so he can give Annie a play-by-play. I would think the other 9 cats would be getting hungry by now. So much violence today – but I loved the cat and chicken videos. bbear – funny pictures today. I know a lot of people who control their diabetes by diet alone. Good going!
Happy, Happy, Happy, Sorry to hear your class reunion didn’t happen because the class president died. I can’t believe how many of my classmates have died already. I lost count how many it has been. But I had a graduating class of about 110 and I’m sure at least a dozen have died – one of them less than a year after graduation. But we aren’t that old that we should be seeing so m any classmates die! I’m only 57 (but in 2 weeks I’ll be 58).
RE: the baby hitting the cat! I find that appalling as well. The brat will be bitten or scratched by the cat and then guess who will be blamed!! So very sad. The cat could have become the kids best bud, but now the cat will avoid the baby.
Cooling some in Calif. Hoping I can get some of the kittens we foster to “forever homes”. It’s a long process.
Be well everyone and enjoy what’s left of your summer.
I blame the baby, he/she should be taught not to hit ANY animal, I think what happened is that the baby was having a melt-down and the cat was collateral damage.I also think the kid got a valuable lesson (from the cat)!I know my son did, and we had a talk about hitting, cats and retribution!!
I’m late today, I sewed for 8 1/2 hours yesterday and was wiped out by 10pm. this schedule will go on until Aug. 14.Check out the Alberta Street Fair, Portland Oregon, My daughter and I have a booth and am trying to fill said booth!Every part of my body hurts, LOL
I was trying to do a series of related GIFs, with the grand finale being the roasted bird. However the baby vs. cat gif has struck a nerve. I think the cat was not harmed and had good reason to teach baby a lesson, which I hope he learned. Will the cat or baby ever forgive the other? Don’t know.
I don’t blame the camera person because this played out very quickly and he was just trying to get some cute “baby loves cat” video.
The human vs. cat gif shows a moderate response to an unpleasant interspecies attack.
In order of my favorite sodas from the days of yore: Dr Pepper, Mtn Dew, Cream Soda, A&W rootbeer which is just above Squirt. I could pull any of them out of the cooler and be happy. Or even throw in a grape Nehi and I’d still be happy.
An update on the Carbonated Beverage Jelly experiments.First off, the Ginger Beer was a bit of a bust for me. Its not the recipes fault, it’s mine. When i was living in Arizona i would buy a Ginger Beer from a place that had lots of different, and sometimes off-the-wall, small soda companies. I would get a Ginger Beer there that was very spicy. I wish i could remember the name of it. Anyway, the Ginger Beer that i used is kinda mild. Thats not what i was looking for. My mistake was pouring it into the pot and adding the sugar BEFORE tasting the soda. (Mild Ginger Beer? Who does anything ginger mild? Ginger Snaps are not called Ginger Milds. Why make a mild Ginger Beer? Even Schweppes Ginger Ale is spicier than the stuff i got.…but i digress…)Second is the A&W Root Beer. Its okay, but just that. Not as good as the Dr. Pepper i made yesterday.Third was A&W Cream Soda. Good to very good. A definite winner. If i come across a cream soda with more of that vanilla flavor that makes Cream Soda special, I’m going to try that.If i try this again, Mountain Dew is on the list. And something like 7Up or Sprite. …Squirt? Hmmm…
Georgie is still hanging on to life, but I fear it is getting close. I am having a hard time not taking her to the emergency vet. But dragging her into a cold office with strangers does not seem like a kind thing to do. Then staying here as she gets worse seems not kind either. She has had a good day, quiet at least, was able to go out and pee; drink water and/or chicken stock. I am having both knees replaced next Tuesday. I have arranged a friend to take me to the hospital so my daughter can stay at home with Georgie if she hangs in that long. My brain is on overload right now.

Bev got right on the cat vs chicken theme. Very funny! Seems you win some and you lose some.

About the vid of that kid hitting the cat – what kind of parent thinks that’s funny? A terrible one, that’s what kind.

I’m still steaming over the morons who actually stood there, took a video of their brat whacking the cat, and then they posted it!!
They knew what the kid would do and they happily captured it. They should be charged with animal abuse.

Calvin had all of his remaining teeth removed today. This should clear up his eye issue. and make him feel so much better.
If he heals well this week, he should be ready for adoption next weekend.DennisinSeattle over 8 years ago
