She missed the whole thing dinking around with her phone! People with video cameras used to do the same thing years ago – so busy trying to capture the moment that they essentially missed it.
1. Your mind is the best capture of any image, it will be there forever. 2. Get a better camera. A DSLR (Nikon 500 is great) can do it easily once you learn how to use it. I have fond the iPhone simply doesn’t do a very good job.
Most of the beauty is what we see with our brains. The eyes are just photo receptors that transmit the raw images to the brain. Cameras are also just photo receptors.
I am grateful for what the brain does with the sensory images it receives from the eyes, ears, and other senses.

It’s its effect on the beholder, not just the image.

It is the timing and the way it is photographed.

if your camera has exposure compensation (my smartphone camera does) – for sunsets push it negative (usually to the -1 ) and you’ll get better results

I don’t think she means photo quality, I think she means that you can’t capture the full 180+ degree panorama of it in a photograph.

I take pictures for a living, but in moments like these I do try to just relax and enjoy. It’s not always easy to leave my phone in my pocket, though…

Boy, Jimmy sure captured the sunset in these images, though.

You can use the HDR function or app, but it’s better to leave them in the wild.

There is much more to a sunset or a dawn (I’m watching one slowly arrive just now) than can be captured by technology. Open yourself to wonder.

If you live near forest fires, the sunsets are especially spectacular now.

One can only take a picture. One cannot capture.

@Rob M – I never pictured them as RV’ing folks. Do they have one that we know of? Just don’t see Janice as liking to rough it.
