Letter: Dear Thatababy@thatababy.com, on occasion your characters visit a coffee shop called 'queequeg's.' what the?? Carlos O'Toole Noblesville, IN Thatababy: Thanks, Carlos! Queequeg's is a takeoff from the coffee chain Starbucks! Starbuck is from the novel 'Moby-Dick'- his shipmate was Queequeg, a tattooed warrior from the south pacific. It's a tip of the hat to those of you whose own personal white whale was having to read 'Moby Dick!!'

Queequegs is good, but my favorite Starbucks takeoff is from the comic Zits who (20 years ago) called it Fourbucks.

Moby Dick By Herman Melville
Ultra-Condensed by Samuel Stoddard
Ishmael “Call me Ishmael”.
Captain Ahab “Crew, we will seek the white whale and kill it, because I am insane.”
Crew “Alas, your destructive obsession will be our undoing.” (They almost find the white whale. Then they almost find the white whale. Then they find it.)
Captain Ahab “I stab at thee. I stab at thee”. (Everybody dies except Ishmael, although this is no surprise, because it was foreshadowed CONTINUALLY from the BEGINNING.)
THE END

I read Moby Dick about 6 times. On the sixth time I actually made it past Chapter 2 and … believe it or else … actually finished the book! Last year!

@tsandlSome call that “padding” but I call it “blubber”……..Whereas there’s hardly a dull moment in the ten thousand page “War and Peace.”
