Around here, the first day of school is always the Tuesday after Labor Day weekend. Because Mondays are bad enough. Nice of the district to spread out the pain.

In my town, they started last Thursday. The kids had two days of school, then a 3 day weekend. This week is a short week, but then school will be in earnest!

Oregon has different start dates in various districts, depending on how many snow/flood days need to be made up.
