Dad was a master baker, in front of the right case it can be like a kennel full of Pavlov’s dogs.

When I was a wee lad (oh so many years ago), my dad would run to the bakery to get what we called “hard rolls” (crispy on the outside, soft on the inside).. a great treat.

Do not blame overuse of herbicides and pesticides totally on farmers. The cost of spraying hundreds of acres is a major expense for them. Home owners, on the other hand, are not as concerned about the cost or how much is applied. Homeowners and lawn care companies are the largest group of polluters of our water systems as they strive for perfection. A few bug eaten leaves, especially at this time of year, is only natural. Kill the bugs and you kill bees, birds, and butterflies who pollinate the vast majority of our foods. Without them we would starve.

There was a really great little bakery nearby, but when the city rebuilt the road, it took so long the place folded.

Those look a lot like Pasties, top shelf, middle…..Or I’m hungry for a pasty, I guess………I like to think of a pasty as a big hearty doughnut with meat and potatoes in it……

AS so many note donuts, it might be noted they’re not baked, but fried, which is the main reason they’re so fattening.

As to the chemical companies defining our “food”, they also gave the world Zyclon B, and napalm. The war on insects and weeds HAS become the killer of “Silent Spring” on a much large scale than the one Rachel Carson warned of.
