The hour's wee, you're ill at ease,
The grimmest outlooks taunt and tease,
Turn the tide of fear and doubt, use that time to think things out.
Take command, don't thrash and weep! It won't work, but you'll fall asleep.
We were living through a series of bank mergers – Hubby worked for four banks and still had the same desk. Everybody remarked on how calm he was. “I make a mental image of a box, put all my problems in here, and throw it up in the air for God to work on. If I start stewing again, I throw the box back up.”
Glad I’m not the only one who over analyzes, over thinks, and over stresses over every tiny bit of my life and future the minute the darkness takes over.
I’ve noticed that for insomnia, intentions count. If I give up and watch TV, I’m groggy in the morning. It’s just frustrating that I want to get to sleep, and I can’t.
I had the same symptoms, lost sleep due to worrying about every little tiny issue ad infinitum ad nauseum. ‘The car isn’t starting, omg what if *flll in blank with most costly repair you can think of)’ At work I made this small mistake, but which I will now work up until sleep is impossible. I likened it to a hamster in my mind running furiously in the little wheel, increasing the worry/insomnia each turn. It’s called ‘generalized anxiety disorder’, and some prozac-like meds makes the hamster go to bed when I do.

It’s that lifetime of minor infractions that keep some of us awake. "Why did I….. (fill in any past event ad nauseum.

I am all about not wasting energy on that which can’t be changed. That includes all of the past. Dwell on the possibilities the new day brings.

Keeping a notebook and pen by the bed to write it out helps…

When I can’t sleep and everything goes through my mind, I turn the clock radio on to the news for an hour, and within 5 minutes, I go to slee-zzzzz.

The best thing is to get up and write out what is bothering you, so that you can deal rationally with the issues when you are alert during the day.

how true. night time falls and what happens……dreams, some negative scenes…….throw them out.

That’s why I take Ambien. It shuts me off like a light switch. I can’t ever get my mind to shut up. Zzzzzzz
