In the early days of football, Yale had this formation called “The Flying Wedge.” They would lock arms and run down the field in a triangular formation with the ball carrier in the center (like pool balls in a rack). Some players on opposing teams were actually killed. That’s why, today, it’s no longer allowed for players to lock together.
