Robert Shaw in “The Sting”: “What was I supposed to do, accuse him of cheating better than me?”One of my favorite “Tumbleweed” strips is one where Tumbleweeds, Ace, Snake Eye and somebody else (the Deputy, or Soppy Sopwell, maybe) are playing poker. Snake Eye asks, “Is deuces wild?”Ace: “No.”Snake Eye: “Why not?” :Ace: “Because you’ve got two deuces.”Snake Eye: “How do you know?”Ace: “I DEALT, didn’t I?”Snake Eye draws his revolver, and Ace draws his derringer. Tumbleweeds: “Pinochle, anybody?”
Can’t remember the movie, but the good guys were trying to create dissension among the opposition, and one way was messing with a card game, making it look like one of the others was cheating. Don’t recall the actor (possibly Walter Brennan) who said; “I’m not a stickler for rules, but, 5 aces? That’s a lot of aces.”
@beviekI did actually feel the earthquake, and thought (very sleepily, because it was 7:02 on a Sunday morning!) that “New Madrid’s acting up, seems like.” I hadn’t actually heard of Pawnee, Oklahoma, until then. (Technically until later……) I’ve actually been to New Madrid but they didn’t have any earthquakes scheduled for that day so I didn’t feel any. This was the first earthquake I’ve felt in my entire life, and only my bed shook a little, and no pictures were knocked off their hangers nor were any plants nor animals harmed (far as I could tell…….)

And it’s easy to tell from the backs of the cards, ALL five aces are from different decks
