Pearls Before Swine by Stephan Pastis for September 20, 2016
Transcript:
Zebra: What's on your sweater, Pig? Pig: A meandering body of water. It goes right over the seams. Zebra: Who made it? Pig: A seamstress I know. She used a steam-powered sewing machine. But when I picked it up, she looked worried about something. Rat: What are you talking about? Pig: The steamed-seamed stream seamstress seemed stressed. Rat: Have you nothing better to do?

These word-play strips are fun. The problem is they’re happening too often and getting played out. You can see it coming from the first panel.
Do it maybe once every two weeks or so; that will keep it fresh. As it is now, it just seems like Pastis has run out of ideas.
fframer over 8 years ago
ugh time for me to pull the plug on this strip, nothing but S.S.D.D. anymore…

Pastis does this comic, because it’s the best he can do. Kinda makes one wonder how bad he is at other things!
Kirk Barnes Premium Member over 8 years ago
Easy there, Sailor! Our boy Pastis works hard at what he does. He’s found his niche, and he’s scratching it for all he’s worth!
kaffekup over 8 years ago
Yes, he has better things to do. No, he’s not going to do them.

Great, back to terrible puns after only a few days ago giving us what has sadly become the rare good pun for the strip.
Sisyphos over 8 years ago
Let’s take Cartoon-Boy out, under a bridge somewhere isolated, and see if he floats with a steam-powered sewing machine tied around his ankles! This wordplay madness may be incurable!

Be careful Pastis, you’ll upset the troll again.

I think Pastis’ style can be characterized as ‘Stream of Pun-sciousness’. If that offends anyone, I am proud of myself.
