Next time you’re in London, visit the Victoria & Albert Museum (it’s free).In the “Castings” room is a full-size copy of Michelangelo’s David.Walk around behind the pedestal, and you’ll find the removable plaster fig leaf that was created in 1857 for those times that “royal ladies” visited the museum.You can read about it at the V&A’s website, look up object number 085428 (that first character is an Oh), or just search for “fig leaf”, it’ll be the first hit.

Leaves fall. We’re used to seeing real leaves, or those in beautiful artwork about them, fall from trees. We aren’t so used to seeing leaves used for “modesty” purposes fall from statues. But this IS fall season, after all…
