Today on Facebook someone told me to pull my head out of my ??? Complete stranger who didn’t like a comment I made on Rolling Stone’s FB page. I deleted my comment and his went with it.
Actually, FB is great ….IF you want to keep in touch with family and friends far away. But it’s not a great place to use as a platform for your religious and political beliefs, and sadly, that is what it has become. Especially during this political season….I wish people would not post these things. I, for one, would LIKE to see your vacation photos, the pictures of your grandchildren and even what you had for lunch at a new restaurant. And THAT’S what should be posted. Not a platform for proselytizing. That use has ended many a life-long friendship.
I rarely personally post on FB but will occasionally click the little Like icon and sometimes comment on a post, but confess most of the time I just go on and mark everything as read, and get on with my life.
Lately, it is difficult to avoid “offending” someone due to the political divisiveness in the U.S. If my FB Friends are any indication, I am willing to predict a VERY close and hotly contested election in November.
My U.S. “Friends” seem to be evenly divided and equally passionate about their hatred for “the other candidate” !
I don’t sense a lot of enthusiasm for any of the candidates – just a strong antipathy for the opposing one.
many people choose to be offended, no one can make someone else offended anymore than I can make someone else do something, they have their freedom of choice as do I. They can choose to get offended over whatever they have in their mental list that they’ve pre-programmed themselves to get offended over or they can wipe that list clean and decide nothing will ever offend them.
However the best reason for not having facebook is 40 years from now something you said on facebook will be held against you by someone, somewhere, etc…plus how so many employers are checking social media to see what a prospective employee has said in the past.
I was on FB for a week even though I’m a serious introvert. People I never met, knew, or heard of wanted to “friend me”. Scared me. I deleted my page. Upon deleting it a notice came up that it would be available to reopen for 18 months. For all I know I’ve got a jillion would be “friends” waiting for me to respond.
There are hundreds of cultures represented in this country, and thousands of sub cultures. I can’t be responsible for the delicate “feelings” of all of them. So I say what I think and if someone doesn’t like it they can take a hike.

facebook seems to be a place for dog and cat types, some are pit bulls and others are pussies.

It’s not a good day unless I’ve offended someone on FB.

I have a blog, and that is sufficient. Eldest daughter is DYING to set me up on FB, and I’m not having any of it, thank you.

Yeah, but how many of those people who were offended asked you to “friend” them?

Glad I’m not on any social networking site.
People seem to be easily offended on GoComics as well. I’m just saying…
